Hooray-sitting in the coolness of an airwell on a hot afternoon has a lot going for it-as we tap away on our respective devices. Recovering from a morning with admiral Cheng Ho-whom, as Gavin Menzies and our guide at the Cheng Ho cultural museum would have us believe, discovereed pretty much everywhere before those upstart Europeans had got out of their baths. What I found most interesting was the main purpose of Cheng Ho'sseven mammoth voyages was to make connections with other people and places-and giraffes as it turned out. Megagiraffes if the scale of the one we saw in the museum is to be believed! So it seems Cheng Ho's voyages were concerned with trade but also interaction-making connections And I guess if you saw over 200 ships manned with 28000 people sailing into your harbour you would have to be impressed.
